Chiropractic Adjustment

An adjustment, or manipulation as they're sometimes referred to, is the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma such as a car accident.

When these vertebrae are out of place, it has an overall systemic effect from muscular to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow of all nerves and systems in the body from the brain, we can't function at our peak.

An adjustment is often a pressure from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move a vertebrae back into place. This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort. You may hear a noise that sounds like you're cracking your knuckles referred to as joint cavitation. It is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint.

Overall, adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level. When the body is in alignment, the body is able to respond and perform as it was designed to.

Corrective rehabilitation is a course of treatment designed to assist in the recovery from injury, illness or disease, and to correct the improper musculoskeletal and biomechanical patterns of the body. This will also help with regaining strength and mobility. Specially designed exercises will target weak areas and over time help speed up your recovery. One of the added benefits of corrective rehabilitation is the prevention of future injury. With the proper care and treatment, you can get back to optimal strength, mobility and peak performance.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing, to improve functioning, to prevent illness and treat various medical conditions. This is done by inserting needles.

The classical Chinese explanation is that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians,  are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues. Meridians can be influenced by the needling of acupuncture points...

Manual therapy is an excellent method for improving overall health and musculoskeletal efficiency. Manual therapy is a form of deep tissue massage. It has a number of beneficial effects on the body and mind. Some of these include increased function of the muscles, increased range of motion of the joints, removal of toxins that can build up in the muscles, increased circulation, decreased tension and increased flexibility in not only the muscles, but also the connective tissue within the body. Manual therapy also helps with muscle spasms as well as soft tissue injuries.

Nutritional Counseling

Nutritional Counseling is the ongoing process in which the doctor works with an individual to asses his or her usual dietary intake, beverage intake, supplement usage, allergies and intolerances, and goals to identify areas where change is needed. Each patient will be provided with information, educational materials, support, and follow-ups to help him or her make and maintain needed lifestyle changes.

Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a system that evaluates structural, chemical and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing with other standard methods of diagnosis.

The doctor using AK finds a muscle that is unbalanced and then attempts to determine why that muscle is not functioning properly.  The doctor works out the treatment that will best balance the patient's muscles.

Treatments may involve specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition, dietary management, counselling skills, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures.

AK uses the Triad of Health.  That is Chemical, Mental and Structural factors that balance the major health categories.

The Triad of Health is interactive and all sides must be evaluated for the underlying cause of a problem.  A health problem on one side of the triad can affect the other sides.  For example, a chemical imbalance can cause mental symptoms.  AK enables the doctor to evaluate the triad's balance and direct therapy toward the imbalanced side or sides.

Golf Physiology with TPI

Gait

Training

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) developed a program to train Chiropractors and other Medical Practitioners to understand the correlation between a golfer's physical limitations and their swing flaws.

Do you ever feel that you spend all that time at the range and never get better? Have you gone to a golf instructor, who informed you that you are "not making a good turn" or you are "coming over the top" or "you are swaying or sliding?" Despite your attempts to correct these flaws, nothing seems to work.

With TPI, a physical screening will help the doctor identify your physical limitations. These physical limitations are some of the reasons you don't "make a good turn" or you "come over the top" or "sway or slide."

By identifying these limitations and providing corrective exercises, corrections of the golf swing are now possible. In many cases, it's not your swing, it's your body! Fix your body, and you can fix your swing!

Gait Training is a technique in which the doctor evaluates the biomechanics of the body as the patient walks, then helps the patient make corrections as needed. The muscles needed to walk properly are typically deconditioned, weak and even painful.

Training sessions may include corrective rehabilitation, manual therapy and proprioception training for the imbalanced muscles.

Simple changes in muscle strength and function typically result in a reduction of pain. Every ache and pan, from the shoulder, to the hip, to the back and the knees, can be fixed with just a few simple gait training sessions.
